# How To Concrete representation: 3 Strategies That Work

The purpose of this paper is to explore how master mathematics teachers use the concrete-representational-abstract (CRA) sequence of instruction in mathematics classrooms. Data was collected from a convenience sample of six master teachers byUsing the concrete-representational-abstract sequence and the strategic instruction model to teach computation to students with autism spectrum disorders and developmental disabilities. Educating and Training in Developmental Disabilities , 49, 547–554.In computer science, an abstract data type (ADT) is a mathematical model for data types, defined by its behavior from the point of view of a user of the data, specifically in terms of possible values, possible operations on data of this type, and the behavior of these operations. This mathematical model contrasts with data structures, which are concrete …Concrete representation is when a math concept is introduced with manipulatives. So, when students are working with manipulatives, this is the representation we are focusing on. Examples We are helping students make meaning of abstract concepts by giving them a visual of that concept to manipulate. Some examples include:Definition: Simple drawings of concrete or real items (e.g., marbles, trucks). Common Uses: counting, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division Graphs/Charts Definition: Drawings that depict information using lines, shapes, and colors.
